Unique Approach to Complex Conflict Resolution

Jeremy Ellis is a qualified mediator who resolves complex and high-value disputes that sit at the intersection of Private Client, Commercial, and Family Law. With a rare professional background spanning family law, civil litigation, numerous appointments as professional trustee and executor, and a dedicated mediation practice, Jeremy offers a genuinely inclusive perspective and a unique strategic vision that guides parties to creative, enduring settlements.

This combination of expertise allows him to manage the “messy middle” — specifically, civil cases involving family members and high-conflict, complex family cases, that require both legal depth and acute emotional intelligence.

A Core Philosophy: Finding the Way Out of Conflict

My motivation for mediating stems from a deep, personal conviction that entrenched conflict is fundamentally destructive — emotionally, financially, and relationally. I am driven by a desire to use my legal expertise, commercial awareness and negotiation skills to help individuals, families, and businesses find practical, dignified pathways out of damaging disputes, creating space for new, sustainable futures.

A Style Defined by Persistence and Process

Jeremy brings a style of calm resilience and demonstrable tenacity to the mediation table. He is highly resourceful and adaptable, committed to finding the right conditions for a breakthrough. This approach is best captured by his personal commitment: as an ultra-marathon runner, he is often heard to say in mediation, “I’ll be the last to stop!” This philosophy translates into a steadfast dedication to exploring every avenue for resolution, ensuring clients benefit from a mediator with endurance, maturity, and self-control.

His technical skill is focused on the orchestration of negotiations. Jeremy applies a measured personal authority to manage the complex flow of information and guide clients through emotional and financial transitions. Crucially, in high-value cases, Jeremy is adept at coordinating the input of lawyers, accountants, and other technical specialists, ensuring their expertise is integrated efficiently into the process.

He moves seamlessly between facilitative and evaluative methods, leveraging his legal expertise when required to define problems and indicate possible outcomes, while always prioritising a process where clients reach their own practical, mutually agreed outcome.

2. Private Client & Civil Disputes

Contentious Trust and Probate: Resolving disputes over estates, legacies, and the administration of domestic and offshore trusts.
Commercial & Partnership Disputes: Addressing business conflicts, particularly those involving family-owned businesses or complex shareholder issues.

  • “During my career as a banker, I have learned that conflict is a reality. I have seen too many of those conflicts result in painful litigation.

One of those conflicts involved a client’s family dispute – which could well have ended up in the courts. Jeremy worked tirelessly with the various family members to help them focus on potential solutions and to shift their mind set away from blame and the past. Jeremy had a clear vision of the future for them and that created sufficient momentum for the family to attend a mediation meeting. A thirteen hour negotiation resulted in an agreement that brought closure. Not only was litigation avoided but also the family could start to repair their relationships.

I was very impressed with Jeremy. So I will be recommending Prefix to clients as a great way of resolving disputes in the future.”

  • “I had been being threatened with legal action by a large energy company for over a year. I didn’t want to involve lawyers and I definitely didn’t want the case to end up in the courts.  I reached out to Jeremy to seek his help on how best to negotiate with them. Jeremy came up with a practical plan and walked me through all its stages and discussed probable outcomes and various scenarios, which gave me a lot of comfort. He was professional, very supportive and confident in how we should speak and correspond with the company. The company ended up withdrawing their claim and dropping the case. If it wasn’t for Jeremy I would most likely end up in a stressful court case and with huge legal bills. With him I got the outcome I wanted in a surprisingly short time and with little cost.”

  • “I found myself involved in a multi-million pound dispute between two other parties, and for years my legal team were not able to extricate me from it, instead running up significant litigation bills.

Jeremy completely understood my goals, showed me an alternative path, coached me both on how to make the most of a mediation process and how to negotiate with the other side, and made a significant difference to the outcome on the day.

I hope to never find myself in a similar situation again, but if I do then Jeremy will be the first person I call.”
