Our Lasting Power of Attorney assistance service: act now to secure the future
Planning for the future can feel daunting, but ensuring your affairs and welfare are managed by people you trust is one of the most important steps you can take. At Prefix, we offer a dedicated assistance service to guide you through the process of preparing and registering your Lasting Powers of Attorneys (LPAs), providing clarity and support every step of the way.
What is a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

A Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows you (the ‘Donor’) to appoint one or more people (known as ‘Attorneys’) to make decisions on your behalf. This gives you more control over what happens to you if you have an accident or an illness and cannot make your own decisions
(you ‘lack mental capacity’).
There are two types of LPA:
Property and Financial Affairs LPA
Allows your Attorney(s) to make decisions about your money and property, such as managing your bank accounts, paying bills, collecting benefits, or selling your home. This can be used as soon as it is registered (with your permission) or held until you lack mental capacity
Health and Welfare LPA
Allows your Attorney(s) to make decisions about things like your daily routine (washing, dressing, eating), medical care, moving into a care home, and life-sustaining treatment. This LPA can only be used when you are unable to make your own decisions.
Why is an LPA so important?

Creating LPAs offers significant benefits:
- Peace of mind: Knowing you have chosen trusted individuals to manage your affairs and welfare according to your wishes.
- Control: You decide who makes decisions for you, not a court.
- Reduced stress for loved ones: Prevents family members from facing potential legal difficulties and lengthy, expensive Court of Protection applications if you lose capacity without an LPA in place.
- Clarity: Ensures your specific preferences for financial management and healthcare are known and can be acted upon.
- Protection: Safeguards your interests by appointing people you trust explicitly.

(Property and Financial Affairs and Health andWelfare): £500
Please note: The Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) charges a separate registration fee for each LPA document submitted (currently £92 per LPA, subject to change by the OPG).
