Kate started out as an employment lawyer in 2003 at Penningtons LLP, focusing on employment law and workplace disputes, litigating and negotiating. In 2008, she joined Thomas Eggar’s employment team advising businesses on their day-to-day employment issues and helping them to pre-empt disputes.
Kate was inspired to train in mediation with Resolve 17 years ago and then dealt with a wide range of community matters from neighbourhood conflict to family rifts. This continued alongside her legal practice.
In 2016, Kate joined CHR Family Solicitors as a family lawyer, working with clients in their disputes about their financial and property arrangements and children’s circumstances.
Kate is a Resolution trained mediator, and has run her own practice as a full time Mediator since 2021. She has worked with many clients at the earliest stages of the decision to separate but also with those who are involved in the litigation process and wish to try a different approach.
Kate has run dozens of mediation meetings, taking clients on from the initial information and assessment meeting into joint mediation sessions. She has developed a specialism for ‘arms -length’ or ‘shuttle’ style mediation negotiation processes (one-to-one meetings where clients are not in the same space). Around 80% of Kate’s matters have reached conclusion or got to a point where clients can conclude matters between themselves. The ones that have not, have been where clients have requested a ‘MIAM Certificate’ to be able to enter a court process, which Kate has gladly provided subject to appropriate enquiries and discussions.
